Mubi has acquired all Italian rights to Giulio Bertelli’s directorial debut “Agon,” starring Italian judo athlete and Olympic Gold medalist Alice Bellandi, forward of the movie’s premiere within the Critics’ Week part of the upcoming Venice Movie Competition.

Concurrently, Mubi-owned gross sales firm The Match Manufacturing facility has taken world gross sales on “Agon.”

The specialty streamer will launch “Agon” in Italian cinemas on Aug. 29, kicking off Mubi’s Italian theatrical launch slate.

“Agon” is an allegorical movie that follows three athletes as they put together and subsequently compete on the fictional Ludoj 2024 Video games in judo, fencing and taking pictures. The sports-themed drama marks the directorial debut of Bertelli, who’s clothier Miuccia Prada’s son.
